Ford India discontinues Endeavour base variant

The company has discontinued the base variant of the Ford Endeavour in India as more and more customers opt for the 4x4 automatic variants.

Ford India had recently announced a price cut amounting to as much as INR 2.82 lakh depending upon the variants. Now, according to the company’s website, Ford India has discontinued the base variant of the Ford Endeavour in India. The decision was taken by the company as more and more Indian consumers are opting for the Automatic and four wheel drive variants of the premium SUV for obvious reasons. Manoeuvring a car of this size is a pain in the ever increasing India road traffic and an automatic SUV makes so much sense. Also while highway cruising and driving on the back roads of the Indian countryside, a 4x4 makes an obvious choice.

The new 2016 Ford Endeavour a completely new SUV in terms of design, interiors and features. The SUV sports projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, huge chrome grille, massive alloy wheels and LED taillights. Dimensionally, the SUV gets humongous proportions and measures at 4,893 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width and 1,837 mm in height. The Endeavour comes with a long wheelbase of 2,850 mm while the ground clearance stands at an amazing 225 mm.

On the features front, the Ford Endeavour off-road SUV comes feature loaded with an extensive equipment list. Features include an 8-inch touch screen multimedia infotainment system along with 9 speakers, automatic climate control system, ambient lighting, 8-way adjustable front seats and the likes. Talking about the safety features, the SUV comes loaded with seven airbags, dual-stage airbags, Tyre Pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction control system, Hill launch control, hill descent control and torque on demand four wheel drive system.


Coming on to the engine specifications, the 2016 Ford Endeavour is offered with two diesel engine options that include 2.2-litre TDCi and 3.2-litre TDCi four cylinder diesel engines. While the former is capable of producing 158 BHP of maximum power along with 385 Nm of peak torque the latter is tuned to deliver 197 BHP of maximum power while developing 470 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while a 6-speed automatic gearbox is also available as an option. The 2016 Ford Endeavour comes with both two wheel drive and four wheel drive systems with manual and automatic transmissions.

The Ford Endeavour is priced in India between INR 23.78 lakh for the base variant and INR 29.76 lakh for the top end variant. The SUV rivals the Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, the upcoming Toyota Fortuner, SsangYong Rexton and the Honda CR-V.
